Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram is an orphanage in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia that cares for approximately 45 children of ethnic Indian heritage. It was formed in 2001 by B. Praveendran who funds the orphanage through his day job. Mr. Praveendran founded Sinthamani Divine Life after an incident where he saw a child eating out of a dumpster in KL. The ashram accept the children from family members who bring them; the children’s parents are often deceased or drug abusers. The ashram volunteers raise the children until they are 18 years old, after which they head to school and are on their own.
The children are separated into two rooms, one for boys and one for girls. The girls sleep in bunk beds while the boys sleep in single twin beds in long rows across the room; pictures below. There are a few cribs in the common area for the infants. The ashram is in the Jinjang Utara neighborhood of KL, and in a bit of a slum area.

The Need
Funds are the biggest need of Sinthamani. Other than that, they post list of supplies/groceries needed to their facebook page every few weeks. They are good about updating that page, so check it for the most up to date information. Contacting the POCs directly would also be a good way to determine the most current needs.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are needed at the orphanage to spend time with the kids and organize activities such as English classes and reading. Needs based on information provided by the orphanage:
1. Part time teachers (Malaysian syllabus)
We need part time teachers (on a daily basis) for 1 or 2 hours to coach our UPSR, PMR & SPM children.

2. Plumbing Services
We have major water issue at the home. The water pressure is very bad. If anyone can help to find a professional plumber to fix our problem, this will reduce the time spent washing dishes, clothes, cooking and bathing.

3. Transport
We are looking for a sponsor to sponsor our home with a 16 seater van, as our current van is in a very bad shape. We have only one van transporting 33 children to & from school, every day, clinics, hospital, checkups and other requirements which is also not in a very good condition.
